How are your tyre’s health?
While often overlooked, tyres are one of your most important safety feature. They are THE only contact point you have with the road while driving, giving your the grip you need and also repelling water from the road.
So, it’s definitely a good habit to have it checked and maintained regularly.
If your car comes with their own TPMS (tyre pressure monitoring system), always make sure they’re correctly calibrated to get the most out of it.
Additionally, here are some things to look out for:
1. The biggest sign if your tyres are in need of replacing or not is by looking at the threads. Tyres are built with bridges in between threads and if you start noticing that these bridges are starting/close to level out, then it’s a good time to replace them.
2. Abnormal bulges, or bubbles on the sidewall of your tyres? Yea it’s a good time to replace them, as it’s indicating a compromise in the structural integrity of the tyres. It may even lead to a blowout at high speed, as the rigidity of the internal frame might be damaged.
3. If you’re noticing excessive vibration in your steering wheels, have your car sent in for wheel rotation and balancing. Your steering wheels provide important feedback and insights to your tyre’s health. Don’t ignore it!
4. Even if you do not run into any of the above, it’s always good advise to have your tyres replaced every 5 years or so, and regularly inflating them to the recommended pressure will increase the longevity of your tyres.
So remember, take care of your tyres and you’ll be doing yourself a huge favour!
